South Bruce receives donation for new medical centre in Teeswater

The Nuclear Waste Management Organization (NWMO) has provided a donation of $519,000 to the Municipality of South Bruce to be put towards the development of the Teeswater Medical Centre.

The donation was made through the Near-Term Investment program which NWMO has provided to the Municipality of South Bruce.

The funding program is offered by the NWMO to communities that remain in the site selection process for the Project to store Canada’s used nuclear fuel.

“Our fundraising efforts are greatly enhanced by this major contribution from the NWMO’s Near-Term Investment program. On behalf of the Committee, I would like to thank Council and the NWMO for helping us work toward achieving our goal of local health care in a state-of-the-art facility,” said Paul Cronin, Co-Chair of the Committee that is spearheading the work to establish the Centre in Teeswater.

Cronin says their goal is to raise $2.6 million, and with this donation, they’ve now raised over half their goal.

Cronin adds a new medical clinic is needed in the community, as their current doctor’s office only has space for one physician, and it isn’t wheelchair accessible. He says the new clinic will have room two doctors.

They’re goal is to begin renovations next spring, with a move-in date expected in December of 2023.
