Goderich council to look at housing plan

Goderich Mayor John Grace says the town has put together a plan that it hopes will help the shortage of affordable housing in Goderich and throughout Huron County.

Grace calls the shortage of affordable housing the biggest challenge the town is facing right now.

“The Town of Goderich has developed a Community Improvement Plan and that is an initiative that will give incentive to the private sector to come to Goderich and get those incentives to help create affordable housing,” said Grace.

“These can be everything from a four-plex to a full apartment building with twenty, thirty, or forty different units. So it's all about creating the environment and incentives for developers to come and build affordable housing in Goderich.”

Grace says they expect to present the first draft of the plan at next week's council meeting. Council would then have 30 days to ratify it and he hopes construction will be underway sometime this fall.
