Huron County looking for third party help for emergency winter shelters

Huron County council has approved a motion to send out a request for proposal (RFP) to get a third party to look at the county's emergency shelter this winter.

“The purpose of this RFP is that an independent third party will look after, not only the Out of the Cold Emergency Shelter, but also the housing stability and the outreach program that is so very important,” explains Warden, Glen McNeil.

McNeil adds, council recognizes that this is a short-term solution for a long-term at the Out of the Cold Shelter.

“We are looking at more permanent housing, of supportive housing, however, we will not have that in place for the upcoming winter, so we would like a third party to make sure that we have the Out of the Cold Shelter operating again.”

McNeil adds, there is funding available from both the Federal and Provincial governments to support their homelessness programs and the Emergency Shelter as well as the housing stability and outreach.
