Bruce Power survey finds broad community support

Bruce Power said a survey of residents in Bruce, Grey and Huron counties showed they continue to have confidence that Bruce Power operates safely.  During recent independent telephone polling conducted across the region, Ipsos found the key issues for area residents were the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and health care. Their research showed over 90% of all respondents were confident the nuclear facility operates safely, and agreed Bruce Power is a good community citizen.

The poll also found support for Bruce Power’s Major Component Replacement (MCR) Project and Life-Extension Program remains high at 82 per cent, with residents citing environmental reasons as the main driver of their support, seeing as nuclear is a carbon-free source of electricity, according to a media release from Bruce Power.  The survey also found Eight in 10 residents feel familiar with Bruce Power and 86 per cent of those residents have a favourable impression, saying they feel ‘excellent,’ ‘very good’ or ‘good’ about the company.

“We’re humbled by the strong vote of confidence we’ve received from the communities in Bruce, Grey and Huron and residents can rest assured that we will never take this for granted and will continue to make every effort to communicate with and support our communities,” said John Peevers, Bruce Power’s Director of Community, Media Relations, and Economic Development.

Bruce Power reported six in ten (59%) residents continue to be aware of the Nuclear Waste Management Organization proposal for selecting a site for Canada’s used nuclear fuel, and three-quarters of residents (73%) in Grey, Bruce and Huron are in favour of the consultation process by the NWMO.
