LHCC accepting applications for youth education program

The Lake Huron Coastal Centre is now accepting applications for its Coastal Conservation Youth Corp.

Education Technician, Kerry Kennedy, says the Coastal Conservation Youth Corp. Program invites high school students to come out for a week-long session through the summer.  And this year, they have three sessions in Saugeen Shores and one in Goderich. Kennedy says they also offer two weekend sessions in Goderich in September and October.

Five days, full day, an opportunity to learn about coastal conservation, the impacts to the lake, ecology, habitat, and they also have a chance to get some hands-on skills working along the shoreline and in the watershed adjacent to the lake.”

Kennedy adds, there is no cost for the participant, and offers great learning opportunities.

This is excellent training for youth as they get ready or start thinking about the profession or career path that they might take. So a portion is education, a portion is skills, and also learning to work as part of a team.”.

The program has been running for three years now with funding from the Trillium Foundation as well as other sponsors. Participants will be supplied with safety equipment, like gloves and goggles. For more information, or to register, high school students can go to the Lake Huron Coastal Centre website.
