Trades bootcamp highlights opportunities

Students from three Avon Maitland District School Board high schools recently participated in the Support Ontario Youth's Tools in the Trades Bootcamp program.

AMDSB Pathways Coordinator, Jodi Froud, says each event was in person.

F.E. Madill in Wingham hosted an electrical day, St. Marys DCVI covered sessions about plumbing and Listowel District Secondary hosted a motor power workshop.

“So the idea was to connect with kids who were interested in pursuing a skilled trade. The students were actually provided, each, with over $250 dollars worth of tools for that specific sector and they were able to connect directly with skilled trades people who were in various trades,” said Froud.

The Grade 11 and 12 students that participated were either in the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program or the Specialist High Skills Major program.
