The Municipality of Kincardine hopes a new survey will help officials better understand local housing needs and inform the development of a Housing Action Plan. The Municipality is working with Bruce Community Futures Development Corporation (CFDC) to address the local housing crisis.
A media release explained that growth is changing the local housing market, with local housing pressure is due to urban to rural migrations, the Bruce Power Major Component Replacement (MCR) project, and other factors. According to 2021 Statistics Canada data, the population of the Municipality grew by 7.7% since 2016.
“We’re pleased to support the Municipality of Kincardine’s public engagement efforts around this critical work,” said Barb Fisher, General Manager of Bruce CFDC.
“Like many communities across Canada, the Municipality of Kincardine is dealing with an affordable and attainable housing crisis,” says Mayor Glover. “Home prices continue to soar, and rental vacancy rates remain at an all-time low.”
"There are several areas where we lack housing data, especially around rentals and the types of housing people desire,” commented Councillor Maureen Couture, Council Representative for the Community Economic Development Committee. “The housing survey will fill in some of these data gaps and help to identify specific actions the Municipality can take to address the local housing crisis.”
A postcard was mailed to residents explaining participation in the Municipal Housing Survey.
