Weapons and stolen property recovered near Hanover

A Hanover Police Service (HPS) investigation resulted in the arrest of a 34-year-old West Grey man and the seizure of loaded firearms.

Police originally responded to an anonymous complaint about a suspicious pickup truck on Tuesday, March 22. Following an investigation, HPS alongside the West Grey Police Service and an Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) K-9 unit conducted the search of a rural property east of Hanover on Friday.

HPS said that the search resulted in the seizure of a loaded semi-automatic pistol and a sawed-off shotgun, as well as the recovery of a stolen snow vehicle and a stolen pickup truck.

"What started as an anonymous call from a concerned citizen about an abandoned truck has resulted in the seizure of two dangerous firearms," Hanover Deputy Chief George Hebblethwaite said.

"This investigation exemplified good intuitive police work and is an example of the dedication all officers have to the safety and security of the public we serve," he added.

The man faces a number of charges including multiple firearms offences and possession of stolen property. Police said that he will remain in custody until his next court appearance.
