Huron County wins national marketing award

Huron County Economic Development’s Tourism and Marketing team has won the 2021 Marketing Canada Award from the Economic Developer’s Association of Canada for the 2021 Huron Hygge program.

Tourism Officer, Rick Sickenger said it was the first year they had attempted a Hygge program and there definitely were some challenges because they were still in, at least, a partial lock down in the winter of '21.

“At that time we pivoted Huron Hygge a little bit to help foster community connections, to provide some safer, pandemic-related virtual programming, so in our first year we very much were doing most of our programming virtually,” said Sickenger.

The Marketing Canada Awards Judging Panel is made up of a diverse group of individuals with marketing and promotion expertise. Judges evaluate submissions based on creativity and uniqueness of the approach; effectiveness in achieving objectives; user-friendliness; ease of extracting information and; completeness and consistency of approach.

Sickinger said one of the most gratifying parts of winning the award was that it was a project that was so reliant on collaboration with partners. He says they had a lot of help because it was first time they tried a Huron Hygge project.

“We had a lot of assistance because it was the first time we tried this Huron Hygge project. We worked with the Huron County Library, the Huron County Museum, several BIAs and Chambers across the county, several municipalities as well as the business community.”
