A call for green jobs

A group called Huron County Just Transition will be holding a protest on the Square in Goderich this Saturday afternoon.

Spokesperson, Betty Durst, says the group includes members of Blue Bayfield, C4th Climate Action and Green Goderich.

They've joined together to participate in a federal campaign organized by the Council of Canadians.

“We are asking the government to put in legislation that reduces the emissions of carbon to at least 60 percent below 2005 levels by 2030 and winding down the fossil fuel industry, we want good green jobs,” said Durst. “There are a lot of people who are concerned about climate change in this community and we wanted to mark the fact that the petition has gone to the House of Commons and has been read, to put pressure on the government to enact the legislation.”

Durst says they have over 400 names on their petition and one of their goals for the protest is to let the people who signed the petition know that their voices are being heard.

Durst says they're inviting anyone who is concerned about climate change to join them at 2 p.m. on the Courthouse Square in Goderich this Saturday.
