Wellington North addressing housing challenges

Wellington North Council is working to address the housing shortage, and the challenges that come with growth.

Councillor Steve McCabe said council needs to start working on the issue now and considering how growth affects existing and new infrastructure.

"The stress that it puts on, not just the infrastructure, but new roads, maintaining the existing roads, building new infrastructure. Then it goes right into more employees at the township," he explained.

Council has lifted a holding provision on about 8 acres of land in Arthur to allow for 56 new homes in phase 4 of the Eastridge Landing subdivision.

McCabe pointed out sewage capacity in Arthur continues to be an issue for development of housing.

He says council needs to start working on the issue now.
