Focus on Ontario health teams returning

The CEO for the Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance says, as we slowly move out of the pandemic, more focus from the Province will be on the Ontario Health Teams.

The Huron Perth team was one of the first to get up and running.

“Our whole goal with these teams is to make sure that we're supporting the Huron and Perth population in the best way that we can as health care providers and we've got a few areas that we're focusing in on right now through the Ontario Health Team, with mental health as an example, infection prevention and control is another one,” said Andrew Williams.

Teams will continue to get organized.

"All of the health sectors are represented and we've had that vision from the beginning that if you really want to have the best impact on the health of the population, you need all the players around the table, including consumers of health care," added Williams.

Ontario Health Teams were introduced in April of 2019.

On the Ontario Ministry of Health and Ministry of Long Term Care website, the province states the teams are "to provide a new way of organizing and delivering care that is more connected to patients in their local communities."

Once completed there is expected to be 50 Ontario Health Teams across the province that will cover 92% of Ontarians.
