Fundraiser launched to rebuild Hepworth Legion

The president of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 586 Hepworth has launched a Go Fund Me campaign to help rebuild the community hub.

As of Friday, over $5,500 had been raised toward the $50,000. goal.

Karie Cole says the early morning fire on January 21, 2022, destroyed everything. She says it was a devastating loss of an institution to serve local veterans and a place of community celebrations.

Cole says they want to rebuild as soon as possible. She adds there is insurance but it only goes so far. She asks the community to pitch in and help out.

Cole said the Legion has always been there to support Veterans and their families in any way possible and to remember the men and women who served our country. She added the legion has been a place of celebration for many years for local families as they have celebrated the milestones in their lives. She said the legion hosted bingo’s, music events, wedding receptions, dinners, shuffleboard, darts, jam sessions, and many other events. She added it was also involved with local schools and minor sports. Most Saturday afternoons the club room is filled with dancers of all ages enjoying comradeship.
