Perth East man accused of selling fake antique currency

A Perth East man is accused of possessing and selling counterfeit money.

Perth County OPP's investigation began with a complaint on January 26th from a person who had bought antique currency through an online ecommerce website.

The bills were later found to be fakes.

Later that day police made an arrest and the following day executed a search warrant at a home in Milverton on Mill Street West.

Forty-five-year-old James Robb is charged with advertising and dealing in counterfeit money, possessing counterfeit money, and failure to comply with a release order.

Police think there may be other victims and are asking anyone who may have purchased items from the accused to contact them.

Police are reminding people to be careful when using websites like Kijiji or Facebook Marketplace and if a sale seems too good to be true, it is.

If the item you want to buy has a serial number, you can see if it has been reported stolen by using the Canadian Police Information Centre for the public website.
