Sutton Park Inn damaged by fire again

The Sutton Park Inn in Kincardine has been damaged by fire for the second time in less than a year.

First responders attended the fire at about 1:20 am Sunday and saw smoke pouring out of the northeast wing of rooms.

Kincardine Fire Chief, Brad Lemaich, says fire crews had a challenging time extinguishing the blaze.

“It took a number of hours with the weather conditions and cold temperatures. The wind was blowing at 25 km/h and gusting up to 37 km/h."

The fire is being considered accidental in nature and likely due to an improperly placed space heater. The total cost of damage is estimated to be between 1-2 million dollars.

No injuries were reported, however six people residing there have been displaced, and possessions destroyed.

Lemaich wants to remind the public of important fire prevention and safety tips.

"Working smoke alarms and working CO alarms are absolutely vital [for your] safety. And make sure you are using your space heaters in a safe and responsible fashion. If you're unsure, reach out to your local fire department for advice."
