COVID-19 continues to surge in Midwestern Ontario

The Grey Bruce Health Unit is reporting 50 new infections Monday. There are at least 288 active cases. 15 residents are currently hospitalized with the virus.   

11 facilites are experiencing outbreaks. These include Rockwood Terrace Long Term Care – Durham,  Pinecrest Manor – Lucknow,  Errinrung Retirement & Nursing Home –Thornbury.  McVean Lodge – Hanover,  R-Villa Retirement Living – Ripley,  Parkview Manor – Chesley,  Mapleview Long-Term Care Home – Owen Sound,  Lee Manor – Owen Sound,  Grey Gables – Markdale,   Maple Court Villa – Walkerton,   Summit Place – Owen Sound

Huron Perth Public Health’s case counts by municipality are currently unavailable due to high case volumes. There are at least 1,337 active cases. 10 residents are hospitalized due to the virus. There are 21 active outbreaks in Huron Perth. 

Wellington Dufferin Guelph Public Health reported 493 new COVID-19 cases over the weekend, 128 of which are in Wellington County, where there are 363 active cases.  43 residents are currently hospitalized with the virus.

23 facilities are experiencing outbreaks, including Caressant Care - Fergus, Highland Manor - Fergus, Wellington Terrace- Fergus, Royal Terrace - Palmerston, Caressent Care - Harriston. 

Ontario is reporting three-thousand-887 patients in hospital with COVID-19 today, and 578 in intensive care. However, Health Minister Christine Elliott says that not all hospitals in the province report data from the weekends.

There are also eight-thousand-521 new COVID-19 infections logged today, though Public Health Ontario has said the number is likely higher because of the current testing policy. Provincial data show 82 per cent of Ontario residents aged five and older had received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine and 88 per cent have at least one dose.
