New EarlyON centre to open in Palmerston

An EarlyON Child and Family Centre is opening in Palmerston in the new year.

Wellington County's Children’s Early Years Division manages the centres.

And this one will support families in the Town of Minto on William Street in Palmerston and open Tuesday, January 4.

Luisa Artuso is the Director of Wellington County's Children’s Early Years Division.

"An Early Childhood Educator is there to support the family and to have conversations about their child's growth and development and also offer them resources from the community that might benefit that family," said Artuso.

Other centres are located in Wellington North, Mapleton as well as Centre Wellington and Erin.

And Artuso says it takes a community to get the centres up and running in smaller, rural areas.

"But this is where community collaboration really helps support the families and the children in the area, working collaboratively with the provincial funds through the municipality and other connections the municipalities have," added Artuso.

EarlyON centres are geared to help with the development of 'soft' skills such as communication, collaboration and self management, as well as resiliency.

"So resilience is a key component of mental health and well-being," said Artuso. "It ties in the ability to think positively, overcome adversity and stay calm and focused.

The Minto EarlyON Child and Family Centre is located at 215 William Street in Palmerston.

Registration is required to attend the centre.
