COVID-19 cases jump in parts of Midwestern Ontario

Huron Perth Public Health reported 23 new cases, including five in North Perth, four in Perth East, three in Howick and one in Bluewater. There are two new cases in West Perth, St. Marys, South Huron, Huron East and Goderich. There are 74 active cases as well as four active school outbreaks. Four residents are hospitalized with the virus.

The Grey Bruce Health Unit added two new cases of COVID-19 Thursday in Saugeen shores and Chatsworth. there are no hospitalizations due to the virus. There are 49 active cases and one school outbreak.

Wellington Dufferin Guelph Public Health reported four residents hospitalized with the virus Thursday and added nine cases in Wellington County. There are 45 active cases in Wellington County, including ten in Wellington North, nine in Mapleton and five in Minto.

Ontario health officials added 1,290 new infections, the highest number of daily COVID-19 cases since late May. The Thursday report said at least 309 people are in hospital due to COVID-19.  According to the province, 155 of patients hospitalized are in intensive care due to COVID-19.
