COVID-19 cases jump in Midwestern Ontario Monday

The number of COVID-19 cases jumped in Midwestern Ontario.

Huron Perth Public Health added 29 new cases of COVID-19 Monday, one in Goderich, one in North Huron, one in Central Huron, two in Howick, 19 in North Perth, two in Perth East and one Perth South. There are 70 active cases and 70 people have now died from the virus. Three residents are fighting the virus in hospital. There are outbreaks at the North Perth Spinrite Child and Family Centre, and at Elma Township Public School.

Wellington Dufferin Guelph Public Health also reported three residents in hospital with the virus, as 42 new cases were added over the weekend. 18 of the new cases were located in Wellington County, where there are 29 active cases. There are five active cases in Minto, five in Mapleton and three in Wellington North. 38 Wellington County residents have succumbed to COVID-19. There is an outbreak at Norwell District Secondary School.

The Grey Bruce Health Unit reported three new cases in past 24 hours in Meaford, Saugeen Shores, and West Grey. There are 47 active cases and two confirmed local active cases are hospitalized in Grey Bruce due to COVID-19. 23 Grey Bruce residents have died due to the virus. There is an outbreak at Holland Chatsworth Central School
