Speeders charged after targeted enforcement in Walkerton

Complaints from Walkerton residents prompted some targeted enforcement from South Bruce OPP officers. People are concerned about speeds of traffic along the East Hill and the West Hill in the town.

South Bruce OPP along with members of the West Region OPP Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME) team have been conducting patrols in the area. Over 15 hours of traffic enforcement in the area over the last month resulted 18 charges and over 30 warnings. 13 drivers charged with speeding, and five drivers charged with other moving violations.  17 drivers stopped and warned for speeding and 15 drivers stopped and warned for other moving violations.

OPP warn driving at high speeds reduces the maneuverability of the vehicle, limits your ability to safely negotiate curves and significantly increase the risk of becoming involved in a motor vehicle collision. They ask motorists to remember that speeding through a residential area with a reduced speed zone creates an unnecessary risk for anyone that is out walking or riding a bicycle.

The South Bruce OPP is requesting anyone with information to call 1-888-310-1122. Should you wish to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or submit a secure web-tip at www.cstip.ca, where you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2000.
