Fewer new COVID-19 cases in Midwestern Ontario Tuesday

 

Wellington Dufferin Guelph Public Health added  three new cases of COVID-19 Tuesday and reported one hospitalization due to the virus. Unvaccinated residents are nearly 12x more likely to be hospitalized with the virus than those who are vaccinated. One of the new cases is in Wellington County. There are 39 active cases in the county including 20 in Mapleton, three in Minto, and two in Wellington North. 86.5% of the eligible Wellington Dufferin Guelph population is fully vaccinated.  There is an ongoing outbreak at Community Christian School in Drayton, and at the Owl's Next Holistic alternative Elementary School Located at Reroot Organic Farm in Harriston, Ontario.

There is still an ongoing outbreak at the Milverton Public School in Perth East. Huron Perth Public Health added no new cases of COVID-19, and reported 42 active cases. Four residents are in hospital with the virus. Huron Perth Public Health reports 82.7% of of residents 12 and over have two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine.

The Grey Bruce Health Unit added two new cases of COVID-19 Tuesday, in Huron-Kinloss and Meaford. There are 26 active cases. One resident hospitalized due to COVID-19. There are no school outbreaks in Grey Bruce, but cohorts have been dismissed at two schools.

Ontario reported 481 new COVID-19 cases and one more death on Tuesday, with 189 fully vaccinated. However, of the 139 patients with COVID-19 in intensive care units, 19 are fully vaccinated.

Over the last three days, a total of 245 COVID-19 cases were reported in public schools across the province, up from 181 school cases reported last week.
