Underwood area targeted by police patrol

South Bruce OPP conducted patrols around the Village of Underwood in Bruce Township following reports from community members about speeds of traffic.  Between October 22, 2021 and November 9, 2021, over 13 hours of dedicated enforcement took place in the area with support from West Region OPP Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement (TIME).

As a result, twelve drivers charged with speeding, four drivers were stopped and warned for speeding, and two drivers charged with stunt driving. On roads where the speed limit is posted at less than 80 km/h, driver's caught at 40 km/h or more above the posted limit will be subject to a charge of Stunt Driving. The driver's license suspension has increased to 30 days. The vehicle impoundment has increased to 14 days.

Driving at high speeds reduces the maneuverability of the vehicle, limits your ability to safely negotiate curves and significantly increase the risk of becoming involved in a motor vehicle collision. Remember that speeding through a residential area with a reduced speed zone creates an unnecessary risk for anyone that is out walking or riding a bicycle.
