COVID-19 cases continue to climb in Midwestern Ontario.

The Grey Bruce Health Unit added five new cases Thursday, two in Southgate, and one each in Hanover, Meaford, and West Grey. There are 32 active cases and three residents are fighting the virus in hospital. An outbreak continues at Vicky's Sandbox Daycare in Hanover. A cohort has now been dismissed at Georgian Bay Secondary School. Two cohorts are dismissed at both John Diefenbaker Secondary School and Sacred Heart High School.

Huron Perth Public Health added ten new cases Thursday and reported 62 active cases. Three new cases were confirmed in North Perth and Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh. Two new cases were added in Morris-Turnberry. And one new case was confirmed in both Perth East and Stratford. Two residents are hospitalized with the virus.

Wellington Dufferin Guelph Public Health added eleven new infections, including six in Wellington. There are 29 active cases in Wellington, including 19 in Mapleton, and one in Wellington North and Minto. One person is in the ICU. In the region, unvaccinated people are 11.8 times more likely to be hospitalized with COVID-19 than those who are fully vaccinated.

Ontario Health officials logged a total of 642 new infections Thursday, with 245 of those patients reported as fully vaccinated. In Ontario hospitals, there are 168 COVID-19 patients, of which 64 are fully vaccinated.
