Midwestern Ontario sees a steady increase in COVID-19 cases

Ontario health officials are reporting 563 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, and five more deaths due to the disease. The number of new infections has not been over 500 since  Oct. 10 when 535 new cases were confirmed.   225 people are in hospital due to COVID-19, including 57 people who are fully vaccinated.

Huron Perth Public Health added seven new cases, three in Stratford, one in West Perth, one in North Perth, one in Morris-Turnberry and one in Goderich. There are 42 active cases with three people fighting the virus in hospital.

The Grey Bruce Health Unit added five new cases in past 24 hours, two in Southgate plus one each in Arran Elderslie, Owen Sound and South Bruce. There are 41 active cases and three residents are hospitalized with COVID-19

Wellington Dufferin Guelph Public Health reported one resident remains in the ICU with COVID-19. Unvaccinated people are nearly 22 time more likely to be hospitalized with the virus than those who are fully vaccinated. There were 15 new cases in the Wellington Dufferin Guelph region, including eight in Wellington County. There are 22 active cases in Wellington. Nine of those are in Mapleton and two in Wellington North.
