COVID-19 cases edge up in Midwestern Ontario Thursday

Nineteen new cases of COVID-19 were added across Midwestern Ontario Thursday.

The Grey Bruce Health Unit added eleven new cases Thursday, four in Arran-Elderslie, four in Hanover, two in Kincardine, and one in Saugeen Shores. There are 37 active cases, and three residents are fighting the virus in hospital. An outbreak continues at Vicky's Sandbox Daycare in Hanover.

Huron Perth Public Health added eight cases, five in Perth East one North Perth and two in Huron East. There are 42 active cases, and three people are hospitalized with the virus. Outbreaks continue Huron Christian School in Clinton and Milverton Public School as well as two workplaces.

Wellington Dufferin Guelph Public Health added ten new cases, two in Wellington. There are sixteen active cases in Wellington County, including four in Mapleton and two in Wellington North.  Across the public health jurisdiction, one person is in hospital with the virus and there is one workplace outbreak.

Across Ontario, there were 438 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, of which 159 were fully vaccinated.  The death toll in the province has risen to 9,891 as five new deaths were recorded.

Ontario reported 234 people in general hospital wards with COVID-19, with 57 of them fully vaccinated.   130 patients with the virus are in intensive care units  and 15 were fully vaccinated.
