UPDATE: No suspected cannabis edibles in a Huron County trick-or-treat bag

Provincial police in Huron County say they have ruled out the possibility of suspicious looking candy found in a trick-or-treat bag being cannabis edibles.

On Monday, police issued a warning to residents after a package of suspected cannabis edibles was found by a Howick resident. Investigators say the questionable-looking gummies were found in a small, smell-proof bag commonly used to store cannabis infused candies.

Late Monday evening, investigators said they spoke with the individual who handed out the treats and determined that they were only candy.

"As a result of an earlier media release seeking information, the individual that distributed the Halloween treat bag contacted Huron OPP," police said in a statement. "Police met with the individual and have since learned approximately 25 similar bags were distributed."

The OPP still recommends that parents or guardians thoroughly check their child's Halloween candy prior to consumption and if there is any uncertainty, the items should be thrown away.
