40 Ontario women murdered in 2021

Violence Prevention Grey Bruce is expressing its condolences to the family, friends, and community of the woman whose body was found in Northern Bruce Peninsula earlier this week.

The organization points out in a media release that the woman's death, and every femicide is a reminder that gender-based violence continue to be problems in Ontario and in Grey and Bruce.

The group says more than 40 women have been murdered in Ontario thus far in 2021.

Violence Prevention Grey Bruce stresses the pandemic has also increased the risk factors and have made the prevention of violence against women more difficult.

That means women and girls are at increased risk of violence in isolated communities where there are fewer social supports and where access to services are limited by transportation or access to technology.

The pandemic has also increased overall risk factors connected to unemployment, social isolation, stress, and substance abuse.

Locally, Women’s House Serving Bruce Grey, The Women’s Centre, and Kabaeshiwim offer support to women and children impacted by violence.
