100 stuffed lions mark a special anniversary in Goderich

Two members of the Goderich Lions Club celebrated a special anniversary over the weekend.

Between the two of them, Ron and B. J Finlay have been members of a variety of Lions Clubs for over 100 years. And to mark the occasion the community on Cherokee Lane, near the Goderich Airport, surprised them by putting 100 stuffed lions on their front yard and then a parade of cars drove past their house.

JoAnne Klonikowski was responsible for collecting the stuffed lions. She says it took about a year because COVID closed down the stores for part of the time.

“Because of COVID, we had to wait until stores were open and a lot of them we got at Value Villages or Good Wills and a friend of ours started off with the first sixteen. Goderich Lions has a hundred-year anniversary next year, so maybe they could use them for that,” she explained.

B. J. Finlay said it's been a very rewarding experience, “I started as a Lioness in Winnipeg. We've both been governors and council chairs, who lead Ontario Lions and we got invited to a lot of different projects.”
