Provincial business award named after Huron East initiator

An Ontario business award has been renamed after a local woman who spearheaded a number of initiatives in Huron East.

Jan Hawely passed away earlier this year.

Her name will now be attached with what is known as the Pinnacle Award, which is handed out by the Ontario Business Improvement Area Association.

Secretary of the Seaforth BIA, Maureen Agar, says she had attended the 2019 conference with Hawley.

“The Pinnacle Award was started in 2019 and Jan Hawley was the first winner of the Pinnacle Award and it's to recognize individuals who are accomplished leaders and members of the community and who focus on improving their community,” said Agar.

And when Agar went to alst week's conference, she was happy to learn that the Pinnacle Award has been renamed.

“Finally they were able to hold the conference in Hamilton just last week and it was quite a surprise and an honour to find out that they thought so much of our Jan Hawley that they changed the name of the Pinnacle Award to the Jan Hawley Memorial Pinnacle Award,” added Agar.
