Huron Perth Public Health monitoring new outbreak

Huron and Perth counties has seen low case numbers of COVID-19 in school populations.

However, Huron Perth Public Health Director and Incident Manager, Donna Taylor, says it’s likely we’ll see increased transmission heading into fall.

“With the colder weather and people going inside, there is the potential for cases to increase. That’s why it’s so important that those who are eligible that haven’t sought out vaccinations yet do so.”

Taylor says there are also two active outbreaks in the region.

“The outbreak at Knollcrest Lodge has ended, which is great news. However we do have an outbreak at Bluewater Rest Home. There is one confirmed staff case, and one confirmed resident case. We also are following one active workplace outbreak.”

Taylor adds the Delta variant is responsible for “virtually all new cases” in Ontario, and encourages all eligible residents to become fully vaccinated.
