Local food distribution centre looking for help

A big bill is a big set back for the Huron County Food Distribution Centre.

The organization had to dish out over $10,000 to repair a truck that delivers fresh food to area food banks.

There is a golf tournament being organized to help offset costs.

"So the mobility truck is used for transferring food, fresh food primarily, from the distribution centre to the local food banks throughout Huron County," explained Cole. "So without that we are not able to get fresh food out quickly."

Maureen Cole says they also expect food bank use to increase.

"We expect there will be an increase need throughout the schools as well," said Cole. "People have been more than generous and our farmer and agriculture people have been more than supportive."

The golf tournament is being scheduled for October 1 at the White Squirrel Golf Club on Highway 21.

Details includes: $150 for 18 holes with a cart and includes $50 tax receipt Shot gun start noon Light lunch snacks, and dinner at 5 p.m. included

Organizers are looking for 24 foursomes to be registered by September 10.

Organizers are also looking for sponsorships for holes, carts, meals and the tournament.

Information about registration and sponsorships are available by calling 519-630-2891.
