Concerns about crowded beaches in Saugeen Shores

Some community members have raised their concerns to Saugeen Shores council regarding crowding at the beach, and the by-laws visitors may break while present.

Mayor Luke Charbonneau says the town continues to see high turnouts, but with that comes some concerns from the public regarding by-law infractions.

“Parking near the beach, particularly down at the base of South Street, and also some concerns about infractions of various by-laws. Things like the by-laws preventing people from having barbeques on the beach, or drinking [alcohol] on the beach.”

Charbonneau says council takes these comments seriously.

“We have a very robust By-Law enforcement and police service in Saugeen Shores to enforce those by-laws, and if they know where infractions are taking place they will certainly respond as they have been doing very effectively throughout the pandemic.”

Charbonneau adds the town looks forward to working with and hearing from the community to make sure the beach continues to be an accessible, and enjoyable, destination for residents.
