Kincardine Hospital CT Scanner project moving forward

The Ministry of Health is now considering the Stage 3 and 4 submission for The CT scanner project at the Kincardine hospital. That includes a Sketch Plan Report and Working Drawings and Specifications.

The Ministry of Health approved Stage 1 and 2 of the five-stage capital project submission and has accelerated the typical review process. The final stage of the capital project submission is releasing the project tender and awarding the construction contract.

“The project is moving along well,” explains Michael Barrett, President & CEO. “Getting the scanner in place and operational as quickly as possible is our goal, to meet the health care needs of the Kincardine community. The sooner we get the CT installed, the sooner that patients from the Kincardine community will no longer have to travel to another community to access CT services.”

Construction is expected to begin this fall on the 2,000 square foot addition south of the main entrance with the goal of having the scanner operational in 2022.  The purchase order for the Siemens Edge Plus CT scanner was issued on April 29th, 2021, and the equipment is expected to arrive on site in early in 2022.

Funding for this project is being provided by the Kincardine and Community Health Care Foundation, which includes a $1 million contribution from Bruce Power, and the Government of Ontario.

“The Foundation is very pleased to be able to support the Kincardine community with the installation of a CT scanner in the Kincardine Hospital,” says Becky Fair, Kincardine and Community Health Care Foundation President. “Having a state-of-the-art CT Scanner will ensure we are able to keep pace with the increasing health care demands of our fast-growing community. We are looking forward to our capital fundraising campaign for the hospital redevelopment project and CT scanner and we are very grateful for the generous support of Bruce Power and our community to help make this project a reality.”

Earlier this year, the hospital’s main entrance was reconstructed to accommodate the new addition for the CT scanner suite, modifying the entrance canopy with structural walls and columns. This project began in January 2021 and was completed on time and on budget in May 2021. The new main entrance will remain open to patients and visitors for the duration of the construction on the CT scanner addition.
