Huron Perth Public Health says still people susceptible to COVID-19

According to Huron Perth Public Health, about 77 percent of Huron-Perth residents aged 12 and older have received one dose of vaccine and 62 percent are fully vaccinated

Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Miriam Klassen, says while they are pleased by the vaccination coverage rates, there remains a large portion of the eligible population who have not gotten the shot.

“There are still a lot of people that are susceptible to the virus. They can themselves acquire it, they can become sick, and they’re capable of spreading it to others. So along with protecting yourself and your loved ones from COVID-19, keep in mind there are benefits to being fully vaccinated,” said Dr. Klassen.

Dr. Klassen says evening hours, pop-up locations and a drive-thru clinic will be added to the options Huron-Perth residents have to get vaccinated next week, and encourages anyone who still needs their first or second dose to take advantage.

“So we want to overcome barriers to access and have more walk-in opportunities for people who prefer to walk in rather than make an appointment, have more evenings, target those areas where we know vaccination rates are lower, add some drive-through opportunities,” said Klassen.

“So the pop-ups, the walk-ins, we know that younger people prefer to walk in, they would rather wait that way than book something and put it in their appointments. We have really good vaccination rates in our older population and there is room for improvement in our younger population.”

There are still some appointment based clinics with room and those can be found by clicking here.
