Businesses urged to make the POST promise

The federal government is contributing $1 million dollars to a private sector initiative that sees businesses declare they are dedicated to stopping the spread of COVID-19.

Minister of Small Business, Mary Ng says the POST -- or People Outside Safely Together -- logo in a store's window shows customers that they are committed to following five key measures to stop the spread including encouraging vaccination, physical distancing, mask wearing, cleaning, and screening.

"Businesses that commit to these activities are doing their part to keep the economy open and will give Canadians confidence when they walk into that POST Promise restaurant, small shop, their local business or retailer that they are supporting those that are doing their part to prevent the spread of COVID-19," said Ng.

Ng also had a message for those targeting businesses that are encouraging or promoting having their staff fully vaccinated.

"Stop it," she said. "Following science for public health is not only the logical thing to do, it's the right thing to do. These businesses are on the right side of history. They are doing their part to end the pandemic and to earn their livelihoods."
