Owen Sound rated near the top for best place to buy real estate

MoneySense, a Canadian online digital personal finance magazine, has ranked Owen Sound as the eighth-best city to buy real estate in Canada in 2021.

MoneySense ranks cities by measuring how affordable the community is compared to the surrounding area, and how quickly prices are appreciating in a community.

The real estate market across Grey Bruce and Owen Sound hit an all-time high in 2020. MoneySense lists Grey Bruce Owen Sound’s 2020 average price of a home at $346,317 and its one-year growth at 15 per cent and three-year growth at 54 per cent.

One of Council’s strategic priorities is a “City that Grows” and Council and staff say they remain committed to city growth in 2021 and beyond.

"I am excited to see that Owen Sound ranked eighth in all of Canada as one of the best places to buy real estate in 2021,” said Mayor Ian Boddy. “Council, the City Manager, and staff have worked hard to let people know that we are a welcoming and inclusive community. With the Pandemic, people have learned that they no longer need to live where they work, but can choose to live in an affordable, safe, and charming location like Owen Sound. We are a city that is committed to growth while maintaining an incredible quality of life.”
