Lucknow athlete named to Canada's Olympic team

Midwestern Ontario has another Olympic athlete.

Lucknow's Julie-Anne Staehli has been named to Canada's team for the women's 5000 m. She was one of the 57 track and field athletes named Saturday by Athletics Canada to compete in Tokyo.

Staehli ran in five 5000 m events in the US including in Portland in May at a High Peformance meet where she ran a 14.57.50. That is the second best time run by a Canadian this year.

Guelph's Andrea Seccafien ran a 14:57.07 in the same race. Seccafien is also on the team and will be her second Olympics after competing in 2016 in Rio.

Staehli is the second athlete from the region picked to go to the Olympics this week. Listowel's Corey Conners was named to the golf team on Tuesday.
