With increasing vaccine supply, public health officials in Huron and Perth are able to run more mass immunization clinics, and continue expanding eligibility for early second doses. Anyone who received a first dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines on or before May 30th can now book a second-dose appointment.
Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Miriam Klassen, says we’re on a good path now with more vaccinations and fewer case numbers, but warns we shouldn’t be complacent.
“Case and contact management staff are seeing more non-compliance with isolation instructions among confirmed cases and high risk contacts. This is not acceptable. It threatens the health of other members of the community and has potential to affect our healthcare system.”
Dr. Klassen says due to last minute supply changes, HPPH cannot always guarantee which vaccine you could be getting at your second dose appointment. However, she says Pfizer and Moderna are interchangeable mRNA vaccines.
“This means that if you had Moderna or Pfizer for your first dose, you can take either Pfizer or Moderna for your second dose, and you’ll have strong protection against COVID-19.”
The health unit has recently added more dates for mass vaccination clinics running in Stratford and Goderich, and appointments can be made at hpph.ca/vaccinebooking.
