COVID cases in Huron, Perth lowest since beginning of November

Active cases of COVID-19 in Huron Perth remain low, but the area’s Medical Officer of Health says we mustn’t let our guards down just yet.

Dr. Miriam Klassen says following all public health measures will prevent COVID-19 cases from rising in our region.

“The COVID-19 situation locally and in much of Ontario has improved greatly. As we move into step one and enjoy some easing of restrictions, it is vital that we continue to follow public health measures as vaccination rollout continues.”

HPPH reported only 20 active cases in the region Wednesday, the lowest since the beginning of November.

“Certainly in Huron-Perth, our cases have declined after that surge a few weeks ago. However, we continue to see a steady influx of cases, many of which are due to social gatherings as a source of COVID-19 acquisition,” said Dr. Klassen.

She adds over 82,000 residents in Huron-Perth have received at least their first dose of vaccine, about 68% of the region’s eligible population.
