Arena in Brussels to get $4.6 million in upgrades

Huron-Bruce M-P-P, Lisa Thompson was in Brussels Monday to announce funding from the federal and provincial governments for an upgrade to the Brussels, Morris and Grey Community Centre.

Thompson says the Federal government is investing over $1.9 million dollars, the Province is providing over $1.5 million dollars and Huron East is contributing more than $1.2 million dollars for what she describes as the largest ice project in the riding of Huron-Bruce -- renovating and rehabilitating the Brussels, Morris, and Grey Community Centre.

“This building has been well maintained and cared for, but it's 2021 and the community knows that they want to do more with the hub of their community,” said Thompson.

Huron East Mayor, Bernie MacLellan says the facility has been used very well over the years, but it clearly needs a face lift and he says they're not just bringing the building up to date aesthetically, they're also making more accessible.

“Not only are we making some changes to make things more modern, it's going to be a lot more accessible too and that's an important part of moving into the years that we're moving into now because that's something that the government is always looking for and the community is looking for too, so by making things accessible, that just adds to our ability to serve the public.”

The renovations to the facility will include replacing an aging roof, accessible dressing rooms, a new kitchen, renovations to the auditorium and an enhanced fitness centre.
