Charges laid after April rally in Stratford

Stratford Police have laid charges in connection with an anti-lockdown rally held in the city in late April.

Police say a group, known as No More Lockdowns Canada, organized the protest to be held at Lower Queens Park on April 25th. But the city and police barricaded streets around the area and organizers moved the protest to Downie and Shakespeare Streets.

It was estimated 700 people attended the event, which police say was peaceful for the most part.

An investigation was started and Stratford Police have charged 14 people with 'failing to comply with an order made during a declared emergency' under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act.

A stay-at-home order has been in place since April 8th

Thirteen of the people charged were either organizers or speakers at the event and one other individual was identified as being aggressive at times.

Police haven't released the names of those charged but through a Summons they are required to appear in court June 22nd.
