Local Chamber of Commerce in Huron County will have COVID-19 rapid test kits

The Chamber of Commerce for Goderich, North and Central Huron is offering free COVID-19 rapid test kits to small businesses in their area.

Operations Manager Heather Boa says the Ontario Chamber partnered with the Federal and Provincial governments to originally launch the program in the Kitchener-Waterloo and Cambridge area, so the Chambers there set up a portal on their web sites and the uptake was amazing.

Boa says the Chamber in Goderich is in the process of setting up a portal on their website and they are expect to be ready to go by May 17th.

"It's aimed at asymptomatic people to identify when they possibly have COVID-19," said Boa.

Boa says the free test kits are available to any businesses that has fewer than 150 employees and is within the Chamber's coverage area.

"Which is Goderich, Central and North Huron. Any business within those areas that would like to receive test kits will sign up through the portal and then they will come to our distribution centre in Goderich to pick them up," added Boa.

She says the Chamber has had to partner with several organizations in the community to cover their costs and everyone they approached stepped up to help.

Their partners include Town of Goderich, Bruce Power, Goderich Little Theatre, Huron and Area Search and Rescue, and Alexandra Marine and General Hospital.
