HPPH vaccine booking system operational again

Huron Perth Public Health’s online and phone booking systems were down Wednesday for maintenance, but are operational today.

Medical officer of health, Dr. Miriam Klassen, says now the booking systems are now open for anyone age 50 and over, those with high-risk medical conditions, and Group 1 of Ontarians who cannot work from home, outlined in the province’s vaccination rollout plan.

‘We do expect the booking system to be very busy, so we ask everyone that can make an appointment to be patient. There will be enough vaccine for everyone.”

Huron and Perth saw a slight bump in cases the week, recording 10 additional cases Wednesday, however cases have remained relatively low during the course of the virus’ third wave.

Dr. Klassen says that can be credited to proper outbreak protocols.

“Once [case numbers] get really high, it’s much harder to bring them down and get them under control without extreme measures. We never got that high at the beginning of this third wave. With the outbreak measures in place, it was easier to keep [cases] down.”

Dr. Klassen added the region has provided at least one dose to just under 40 per cent of its eligible adult population, a target the provincial government wanted to achieve in Ontario by May 1st.
