Bayfield committee working on Main Street revitalization plan

Bayfield's Heritage Committee provided some input into the plan for the revitalization of the village's Main Street at Monday night's council meeting.

Bayfield ward councillor Bill Whetstone explains any changes to the Main Street have to conform to the Provincial Heritage Act, so it's important that the municipality work with the committee on the plan.

“Making sure that there's not a whole lot of cement anywhere in front of buildings, making sure the pedestrian lighting is consistent, making sure the colour that is picked is in the heritage colour palette, similar to the green that we have now on the lighting,” said Whetstone.

Another request was to try to keep the Main Street landscape looking like it did years ago.

“What Bayfield Main Street looked like years ago and the tree canopy is the huge aspect that everybody is trying to get. The only way that you can make sure you get the tree canopy back, to make it look like that picture from years ago, is to remove the Hydro wires and bury them,” added Whetstone.

The committee met again Tuesday and is putting together a final plan.
