UPDATE: Deceased driver identified after vehicle goes over harbour wall in Owen Sound

One person is dead after a vehicle went into the water in the Owen Sound harbour early Sunday morning.

The Grey-Bruce OPP, alongside Owen Sound Fire and Emergency Services responded to the scene at 1st Avenue East, near 11th Street East in Owen Sound at the harbour after an SUV crashed and went into the water at 5:19 a.m. OPP regional units were deployed, including the OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit, the West Region Traffic Incident Management Enforcement team and West Region Forensic Identification Services.

The vehicle was recovered from 5 metres of water. The driver was pronounced deceased. The driver has been identified as 60-year-old Catherine Weldrick of Grey Highlands.

The Office of the Chief Coroner has ordered a post mortem examination in Owen Sound which is being conducted today (May 3rd). Anyone with any information regarding this incident should contact Grey-Bruce OPP or Crime Stoppers.
