Mayor, Jim Ginn, says he's confident Central Huron council will support a leash-free dog park in Clinton.
The matter came up at the last council meeting and councillors wanted more information before making a final decision and choosing a location, but Ginn believes most the councillors support the idea. Ginn says there are some things that still have to be considered
“There'll be certainly noise with a dog park, so the dogs out, they'll be barking and running around and the noise that dogs make and then we need to ensure that we have parking and we'll probably have to put in some kind of a sidewalk to get from the parking area to the park.”
Ginn says all three of the locations they're considering are on the edge of town so that should help address the noise issue. And Ginn says they already cut the grass at all three locations, so the additional cost there would be minimal.
He says the biggest cost would be for fencing around the park. Ginn says the Sloman's School Car has a very large area there and it has a fence up on one side of the sewage treatment plant, so that one would only require fencing on three sides.
The second area they're looking at is the Kinsmen Park, behind the old OMAFRA building and the third is Hawkins Park on Smith Street, behind the Tim Hortons in Clinton.
Ginn says he expects council will make a decision at their next meeting.
