Summer Company grant applications open in Huron County

Huron County is now accepting applications for this year's Summer Company program.

The program provides start-up funding of up to three-thousand dollars for as many as five eligible students between the ages of 15 and 29.

“We'll have staff that work with people who are interested in the program, they'll work together to develop a business plan appropriate for the business, marketing materials, they'll provide references and resources. Once they go through that process, they're usually approved for a grant,” said Huron Economic Development Director, Cody Joudry.

Joudry says last year they had a lot of amazing students start some very interesting businesses that were highly successful. “They identified needs in the middle of the pandemic that would exist in the future, they capitalized on them and the money was there to help them start up.”

The Summer Company program is a partnership between the county and the province and the deadline for applications is May 23rd. Applicants are asked to submit an online application inquiry. They will be connected with support individuals from Huron Economic Development who will help with their online application, which includes a business plan and cash flow projections. All submitted applications will be reviewed and applicants may be contacted for an interview before being approved for the program.
