Multiple COVID-19 cases added in Midwestern Ontario Monday

The Grey Bruce Health Unit added another nine confirmed cases of COVID-19 Monday. Two each in Chatsworth, Southgate and Kincardine, and one each in Georgian Bluffs, Hanover and Owen Sound. Officials reported 59 active cases, including ten variants of concern. In all, 35 cases involving variants of concern have been identified in the region. There have been four fatalities due to the virus, and six people are in hospital currently fighting the virus. There are also 394 high risk contacts.

“It takes a tremendous amount of effort to manage this number of high risk contacts. This number will keep increasing, unless we limit, starting today, our unprotected encounters with all people outside of our own households” said Grey Bruce Medical Officer of Health Dr. Ian Arra.

Meantime, The Grey Bruce Health Unit said it is working with Timothy Christian School in Owen Sound to address a case of COVID-19, associated with the school. However, officials report that their assessment, to date, indicates that transmission did not take place within the school environment.  There are also probable cases  associated with Kincardine District Secondary, St. Anthony's School in Kincardine, Edge Hill Country in West Grey and Harvest Canadian Reformed School in Georgian Bluffs.
