More long term care spaces announced in Goderich

The mayor of Goderich says it's been a lot of work over the past five years to get some more long term spaces in the town.

A new building for Maitland Manor will include 69 new spaces and another 91 upgraded spaces.

John Grace says it is a growing need in the area.

"It'll be a brand new build on a different site entirely. It's a hundred and sixty bed facility with auxiliary services attached to it. It will be probably close to double the size of this facility when it's done," said Grace. "160 beds and that's the capacity that we need. This community is growing and the commitment to long-term care in the entire county has been growing substantially over the last five years."

The site for the new building has yet to be selected.

The announcement followed a stop in Wingham where it was announced there would be 27 new spaces and 69 upgraded spaces for Braemar Centre.

Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson also announced over half a million dollars for 17 different retirement homes in the riding to cover COVID-19 related costs.
