Wellington North Council was told that a cull of coyotes would be a knee jerk reaction to few nuisance coyotes.

Axy Leighl of neighbouring West Grey said a cull won’t solve the problem because coyotes will only come back with larger litters. He said residents have to learn to live with them.

Wellington North council has been struggling with what to do with nuisance coyotes that are reportedly coming close to residences and humans.

There wasn’t much support for a cull or a bounty and several councillors liked the idea that problem coyotes are dealt with, but the others are left alone.

Wellington North will put more information on its website and discuss the issue further when information comes from the Federation of Agriculture.
